Anodizing
Anodizing (NL:anodiseren) is een oppervlaktebehandeling die meestal wordt toegepast op aluminium. Wanneer aluminium wordt blootgesteld aan zuurstof, vormt zich een natuurlijke, dunnen oxide laag op het oppervlak. Met behulp van anodiseren wordt deze oxide laag verdikt en kan de structuur van de laag gecontroleerd worden. De oxide laag die door het anodiseren wordt gevormd is slijtvast, hard en goed bestand tegen corrosievorming. Doordat het oppervlak van de oxide laag microporeus kan zijn, kan het kleurstoffen goed absorberen; er ontstaat dan een aantrekkelijke metallic, gekleurde glans.

Passivation is a process used to protect metals from corrosion by forming a protective layer on the surface. For aluminum, this involves treating the surface to create a thin layer of aluminum oxide.
